Gemini Notebook — NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook, and it has no price of its own — the tiers are Google AI Plus at $4.99, AI Pro at $19.99 and AI Ultra from $99.99 a month.

Short answer: Gemini Notebook is free to use with a Google account and has no standalone subscription. Its plans page, read on 1 October 2026, routes every upgrade to a Google AI plan: Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month doubles the standard usage limits and raises sources to 100 per notebook, Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month gives four times the standard limits with 300 sources and five times more Audio Overviews, and Google AI Ultra starts at $99.99 a month for five times Pro’s limits and 600 sources, with $199.99 a month listed for twenty times Pro’s limits. The free tier allows 50 sources per notebook at standard limits. Organisations buy it through Google Workspace, schools through Workspace for Education, and enterprises through Google Cloud. The product’s own FAQ states plainly that NotebookLM became Gemini Notebook in July 2026.

Verdict at a glance

Overall rating: 4.0/5 ★★★★☆
Standout: The free tier is not a demo. Fifty sources per notebook, Audio Overviews, Deep Research, source discovery and public notebook sharing all work at $0, which makes it the most capable free research tool with a real grounding guarantee behind it.
Watch out: There is no Gemini Notebook price. Every paid capability is bought as part of a Google AI plan or a Workspace licence, the limits are expressed as multiples rather than numbers, and Google’s two public pages disagree on what AI Plus includes: gemini.google lists it at $4.99 a month with 400 GB of storage while one.google.com lists a 2 TB Google AI Plus at $9.99 a month.

The first thing to know about Gemini Notebook is the name. Google’s own FAQ, read on 1 October 2026, answers ‘Is Gemini Notebook the same product as NotebookLM?’ with ‘Yes. NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook as of July 2026’ — so anyone still searching for NotebookLM pricing is searching for a product that has been renamed, and the domain has moved to notebook.google. The second thing is that it has no price. The plans page lists four rows and not one dollar figure: Gemini Notebook for personal projects, then Gemini Notebook in Google AI Plus, in Google AI Pro and in Google AI Ultra, each differing by usage limits, model access, feature earliness and sources per notebook — 50, 100, 300 and 600 respectively. The prices live on Google’s subscription pages: AI Plus at $4.99 a month, AI Pro at $19.99, AI Ultra starting at $99.99 with a $199.99 step for twenty times Pro’s limits. Organisations do not buy any of those; they get Notebook through Workspace, Workspace for Education or Google Cloud. The free tier is the surprise. Fifty sources per notebook is a lot of material, and Audio Overviews, source discovery, Deep Research, Slides and report generation, flashcards and public notebook sharing are all available without paying. The grounding claim — answers restricted to the sources you supply — is the reason to use it over a general chatbot, and that does not improve when you pay; what improves is volume. Four stars. The product is excellent and the free tier is genuinely generous, but the pricing presentation is poor: limits are given as multiples of an unstated baseline, the plans page carries no figures at all, and Google’s own two public pages describe Google AI Plus differently. Work out which plan you need from the sources-per-notebook column, then go to the subscription page for the price.

Overview

Gemini Notebook is a research tool that answers only from the sources you give it. You upload documents, paste links or discover sources inside the product, and everything it generates — chat answers, Audio Overviews, Video Overviews, reports, Slides, infographics, flashcards — is grounded in that material. The plans page frames the four tiers entirely in terms of volume and access: usage limits for chat and artefact generation, which Gemini models you reach, how early you see new features, and how many sources a notebook holds.

The ladder reads: free Gemini Notebook with standard limits, standard model access and up to 50 sources per notebook; Gemini Notebook in Google AI Plus with double the standard usage limits, early access and 100 sources; Gemini Notebook in Google AI Pro with four times the standard limits, higher model access, priority access and 300 sources; and Gemini Notebook in Google AI Ultra with five to twenty times Pro’s limits, the highest model access, priority access and 600 sources. The page footnotes that Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra are only available in specific regions.

None of those rows carries a price. Google’s subscription page lists Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400 GB of storage, Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month with 5 TB and YouTube Premium Lite, and Google AI Ultra starting at $99.99 a month, where $99.99 buys five times AI Pro’s usage limits and $199.99 buys twenty times. The Google One plans page describes a differently specified Google AI Plus — 2 TB of storage at $9.99 a month — so the name attaches to more than one offer and the storage allowance is the thing to check before subscribing. For organisations and schools the product is sold through Google Workspace, Google Workspace for Education and Google Cloud, which are priced per seat and quoted separately.

⚠️ The Gemini Notebook plans page carries no prices at all. Every figure here comes from Google’s subscription pages, where AI Plus is $4.99 a month, AI Pro $19.99, and AI Ultra starts at $99.99 with $199.99 listed for twenty times Pro’s limits.

⚠️ Google’s two public pages describe Google AI Plus differently: gemini.google/subscriptions lists $4.99 a month with 400 GB of storage, while one.google.com/about/plans lists a Google AI Plus (2 TB) at $9.99 a month. Check the storage allowance attached to the offer you are shown.

Limits are published as multiples of an unstated baseline — ‘double’, ‘four times’, ‘five to twenty times’ — rather than as counts. The one concrete number per tier is sources per notebook: 50, 100, 300, 600.

Organisations and schools cannot buy Notebook on its own; it arrives with Google Workspace, Workspace for Education or Google Cloud and is priced per seat on those contracts.

Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra are available only in specific regions, which the plans page footnotes without listing.

Integrations

Gemini Notebook sits inside Google’s own stack: it draws on Drive and Microsoft and Google sources, is sold to organisations through Google Workspace, and shares its model access with Gemini on the same subscription. For teams that want a notebook they control end to end, Notion and Obsidian cover the storage half without the grounding, and Mem covers the AI-notes half.

Alternatives

Gemini on the same Google AI plan answers from the web rather than your sources, which is the opposite trade-off. Notion and Obsidian are document homes with AI bolted on; Mem and Tana are AI-first note tools with published per-seat prices. For grounded answers over a company knowledge base with a real price list, look at Chatbase.

Recent changes

The product was renamed. Its own FAQ, read on 1 October 2026, answers ‘Is Gemini Notebook the same product as NotebookLM?’ with ‘Yes. NotebookLM is now Gemini Notebook as of July 2026’, and the site now lives at notebook.google. The plans page lists four tiers — free, in Google AI Plus, in Google AI Pro, in Google AI Ultra — distinguished by usage limits, model access, feature earliness and sources per notebook at 50, 100, 300 and 600, and carries no prices. Google’s subscription page lists Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400 GB of storage, Google AI Pro at $19.99 with 5 TB, and Google AI Ultra from $99.99, with $199.99 for twenty times AI Pro’s limits; the Google One plans page separately lists a Google AI Plus (2 TB) at $9.99 a month. Organisations, schools and enterprises are routed to Google Workspace, Workspace for Education and Google Cloud respectively.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Gemini Notebook cost?

Nothing on its own. It is free with a Google account at 50 sources per notebook, and paid capability comes from a Google AI plan: $4.99 a month for AI Plus, $19.99 for AI Pro and from $99.99 for AI Ultra, per Google’s subscription page on 1 October 2026.

Is NotebookLM the same as Gemini Notebook?

Yes. The product’s own FAQ states that NotebookLM became Gemini Notebook as of July 2026. It is the same tool under a new name at notebook.google.

What do you get for free?

Standard usage limits for chat and artefact generation, standard access to Google’s Gemini models, and up to 50 sources per notebook — including Audio Overviews, Deep Research, source discovery and public notebook sharing.

How many sources can a notebook hold?

Fifty on the free tier, 100 on Google AI Plus, 300 on Google AI Pro and 600 on Google AI Ultra. This is the only limit the plans page states as a number rather than a multiple.

Why do Google’s pages show different prices for AI Plus?

Because more than one offer carries the name. gemini.google/subscriptions lists Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month with 400 GB of storage; one.google.com/about/plans lists a Google AI Plus (2 TB) at $9.99 a month. Check the storage allowance on the offer you are shown.

No. Organisations get it through Google Workspace, schools through Google Workspace for Education and enterprises through Google Cloud, each priced per seat on those contracts rather than on the Notebook plans page.
